Associates give back in Bloomington and all over the country

At CarMax, volunteering is part of our culture, and associates are encouraged to give back to the communities where they live and work.

Our associates take this challenge to heart! During the last fiscal year, they created, coordinated, and completed more than 1,600 volunteer team-builder events with nonprofits near CarMax locations around the country. One hundred percent of CarMax locations participated in at least one service project.

And, The CarMax Foundation granted close to more than $1.2 million to help support the nonprofits hosting these events.

Our associates have held volunteer team-builder events that last anywhere from a few hours to all day long, with nonprofits in their communities such as Boys and Girls Clubs, local food banks, and Fisher House.

Staff at the Bloomington, Ill., CarMax store completed a volunteer team-builder with the McLean County YWCA. Associates joined in the Dash Against Discrimination event, which raised funds to help support the YWCA's mission to end discrimination.

"With the amount of tragedies going on in the world circling around intolerance, we couldn't help but be drawn to the YWCA's Dash Against Discrimination," says Bloomington CarMax Assistant General Manager Michael Smith. "It was great to be able to help a well-respected organization and focus on what's truly important — the people in our lives and in our community."

Together with KaBOOM!, The CarMax Foundation has built over 60 playgrounds in communities all across the country. Thousands of CarMax associates volunteer each year to bring to life the dream playgrounds of children in communities where we live and work.
