KaBOOM! > Celebrating 33 Playgrounds Built
100,000 children impacted, 200,000 to go!
The CarMax Foundation and KaBOOM! celebrated the building of our 33rd playground together in Miami, Florida in November 2015. Over the course of three years, we exceeded our goal of creating opportunities for 100,000 children to get the active play they need to thrive. We engaged 4,400 CarMax Associates, who contributed over 35,000 hours of service to their local communities
We volunteered alongside 3,700 community volunteers. And we partnered with TODAY to bring attention to the importance of play with a new playground in Passaic, NJ. The CarMax Foundation President, Craig Cronheim, grew up near Passaic, “I’m proud of the support The CarMax Foundation has provided across the country and am especially thrilled to see this playground give more than 30,000 area children a safe and engaging place to play. It was an honor to partner with the TODAY team on this important issue."
Now we are extending our commitment to the importance of play. Over the next 3 years, The CarMax Foundation and CarMax Associates will work with KaBOOM! and local community leaders to bring play to another 200,000 children. As a part of this new commitment, we are also KaBOOM!’s first military partner, and together, we will build 4 playgrounds, grant 18 Imagination Playgrounds, and grant 12 Rigamajigs to nonprofits that serve military and veteran families. We have also signed on to support KaBOOM’s Play More B’More initiative by committing to build 6 playgrounds over the course of 3 years for the children of Baltimore.
