When Joseph Perez, Sales Consultant at our Costa Mesa, Calif., store organized an American Red Cross blood drive for his location the week of September 25, 2017, little did he know that less than a week later he and his fellow blood donors would be called “heroes.”
On Sunday, October 1, as the tragedy in Las Vegas unfolded, the Red Cross was there with the life-saving blood needed for the injured. On Tuesday, October 3, Joseph received an email from a representative of the Red Cross thanking his store for their donations. The blood from the Costa Mesa drive was sent to Las Vegas area hospitals to help the victims of the shooting. The Costa Mesa store collected 20 pints of blood, which potentially helped 60 people. As the local Red Cross chapter shared, “What I want you to know and to share with all your CarMax colleagues who donated on Thursday is that they are the true heroes. It helped save the lives of the shooting victims – be extremely proud of that!”
