Participation in this program is by invitation only.

Eligibility

The Regional Giving Program supports nonprofit organizations in the communities where our Associates live and work. Each CarMax store has the opportunity to nominate organizations that offer programs in our focus areas for a regional grant.

Nominated organizations are invited to submit a full proposal for consideration by The CarMax Foundation Board of Directors.

Selected nonprofits:

  • Promote educational opportunities for children, or youth leadership or children's healthy living; and
  • Show a demonstrable need based upon the (a) demand for the program or (b) population served by the program.

  • Dropout prevention
  • Financial Education
  • Literacy and language arts

  • Special needs education
  • Support for students with special needs

  • Tutoring and academic support programs

YOUTH LEADERSHIP

  • Anti-bullying
  • Character development
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Leadership training and development
  • Mentoring
  • Service learning and volunteering

CHILDREN’S HEALTHY LIVING

  • Healthy lifestyles
  • Nutrition programs
  • Obesity prevention
  • Youth sports, recreation and camps

THE CARMAX FOUNDATION IS UNABLE TO SUPPORT:

  • Requests for the donation of vehicles
  • Business ventures or requests for loan or debt retirements
  • Organizations that limit membership and services based on race, religion, color, creed, sex, age, or national origin
  • Organizations that conflict with the CarMax Auto Superstores, Inc., mission, goals, programs, or products
  • Fraternal, athletic, or social clubs
  • Labor and political organizations or campaigns
  • Requests for general operating support, capital campaigns, endowments, event sponsorships, or scholarships
  • Organizations categorized by the IRS as a church, convention, or association of churches
